My mates are going nuts! as you may have read in the previous post, my housemate attempted to cook butternut squash..a very strange thing to eat i think you'll agree. then just a minute ago i had a email from a mate who's got the day off teaching cos of the snow. here's what he said.."Oh yes! enjoying a nice day off - just had sausage on toast"
SAUSAGE ON TOAST!!? crazy! sausage sandwich..fine..nice! sausage, bacon, beans, and toast..good..tasty! sausage on toast? how odd. pull yourself together lads!
Us northerners refer to a toasted sausage sandwich as sausage on toast (toast being both singular and plural). If I was to suggest that I merely had a sausage sandwich it would imply that the 'bread part' of the breakfast / lunch snack was not toasted.
