LLAMA (The Weekend That Was)

So it's been well over a week since us OLO Radio chaps headed down to The Lynton & Lynmouth Music Festival to pollute their fresh coastal air with our selection of daft musical gas. it was a top weekend, i had a great time (apart from the friday night spilt 'n sob..i won't bore you with the details). it all seemed to go down very well..and we have been asked to play again next year. the highlight was sunday's all day stint on the manor green. playing the 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' theme to over a 1000 people was a laugh..well, maybe just for me it was. below are two pages from the programme that featured us..

PLOPS

At last! as much as i love it, (well..i love to sit through it moaning and cursing) it's been sinking for years. i'm hoping that this news will mean i'll never have to watch Reggie, Fern, Spoony, Rufus (or any other stupidly named fools) on TV again. what did Fern Cotton say when she heard the news? "AMAZING! UNBELIEVABLE! BRILLIANT! WICKED! COOL!"

BAYWATCH

TILT YER HEAD & BONGO!

What do you do after an England win, home-made Rooney fairy cakes, and a load of Magners cider? 'Donkey Kong Bongo!'

who's that screaching? settle down

"BRITISH JUSTICE USED TO BE THE ENVY OF THE WORLD"

Hot topic at the mo, especially at the courts i work at as 3 of our judges have been named and shamed by various newspapers. other hot topics discussed in the coffee room include Beckham's backside (i kept my mouth shut), foriegner's coming over 'ere.. raping women and stealing our cleaning jobs (my trap was zipped), and Hazel's broken arm (i did'nt do it!)

HARD CANDY

This new film has had people (mainly men) running out of cinema's in horror during the preview screenings. looks very interesting, but again, another film will pass me by as no one in bristol is showing it..what's going on? i refuse to get in that camper van with Robin Williams! i'd rather watch 90 mins of torture, here's the 'Hard Candy' trailer..

SOCCER FANS NEED TO STOP THE CHIT-CHAT

DIS VENN

Drowned In Sound review Bristol's Venn Festival that i went to just over a week ago. scroll down to read my very short, badly written review if you missed it.

woo hoo! read their review of Safetyword..

"Safetyword are the perfect festival opening act – one about which no expectations are harboured, making what is an excellent set even more so through sheer surprise. I expect some sound-a-like minimalist art-punk, I get the total opposite – imaginative, cluttered, heart-warming music. Perhaps we could dub it maximalism: the ultimate brew of all your favourite bands, ever. Such sonic adventures don’t hit the mark every time, but Safetyword never fall totally flat. Three-part sherbet sweet harmonies over the top of math-rock guitars. Clattering drums, vocal breakdowns, sing-a-long chorus, teen angst, solemnity, silly humour, time changes, Zimbabwean influence. “Foot Oven” starts out sounding like Graceland era Paul Simon, turns to Foals style precision math-rock then switches into Futureheads-esque vocal delivery. A rainbow-coloured thunderbolt of unforeseen joy to open a festival that celebrates the eclectic and the exuberant."

1 MOMENT PLEASE

Llama Festival was a great success! believe me when i tell you. proof will come in the form of videos, photos, and sordid tales..but these hav'nt be transfered from the snapper to the puter..hopefully they will appear soon (nudge nudge Deli & Lion). in the mean time here's a picture of seaweed and i..

POLES APART

How dare they! The Beta Band's 'Broke' was used on the opening scenes of tonight's Hollyoaks. makes me sick! so sick..as a protest i won't watch the omnibus this sunday.

THAT WAS VENN

The Aliens (Friday night)..photo taken by bhoywonder. This is the only photo i have from the whole weekend, it's not the best snap ever taken but i should'nt criticize the man..bhoy.

Right, i'm not gonna write any kind of in-depth review or anything.

friday night..
* 65 Days Of Static - nan loud, not bad.
* The Aliens - really enjoyed them although they did'nt quite live up to my very high expectations. something was'nt quite right, can't really put my finger on it. i think the album's gonna be amazing though after hearing a few new songs.
* Optimo Dj's - don't remember, i'm sure they were good.
* Tetine - don't remember, was on my last legs at this point.

after being told by a number of different people that i was worrying over nothing when it came to me being a little little bit scared of venturing into St Pauls, i was greeted on saturday afternoon by a load of policemen and police tape who told me that there had been two stabbings. oh.

saturday afternoon/night..
* Safetyword - brilliant as always, best thing all weekend.
* Fog - pretty good, very different to what i had come to expect. full band 'n all.
* Team Brick - mad! in a good way.
* Knowledge Of Bugs - only caught a few minutes. liked him in the past.
* Volcano The Bear - soo pretentious! worst thing i've ever seen!
* Ariel Pink - bit dissapointing.
* Kid Carpet - good, shouts 'n buzzes.
* Toolshed - can't remember.
* Kode 9 - sat under a massive speaker and let bass wash me into the early hours.

then, 2 kitkat chunky's later i was home. good weekend. well done Venn!

(sorry, that was a really bad review)
