GREEN MAN (The Report)

Probably the nicest, friendliest, and wettest festival i've ever been too..definitey not the muddiest though (Glastonbury last year served up masses of Sarah Lee Gateau). As they usually do..lot's of wierd, stupid and embarrasing things happened to me that i won't go into here because i have recently become more worried about posting pictures of poo and whatnot seeing as i have a new job starting soon. I'm still a bit worse for wear now so you can imagine how fast i was driving. We bumped into alot of nice people including our friends at Fence which is always a joy! We got there Saturday so missed alot of good stuff including James Yorkston, King Creosote, Spiritualized, F*** Buttons, & Cave Singers which was dissapointing. We also somehow (well i have a good idea why) missed a load of stuff i REALLY wanted to see like.. Junior Boys, School Of Language, Archie Bronson Outfit, Little Wings & David Holmes (although i might have seen him?).

But what did we see!?? Musical highlights over the rest of the weekend included (in order of how much i enjoyed them)..

Wild Beasts (wooooo!! got told off during them for singing and dancing too loud),
Super Furry Animals (got told off during them for bouncing to loud),
The Three Craws..which for those who don't know are King Creosote, James Yorkston, & Pictish Trail..with help from Pip Dylan on Box (that i wanna get to play live with, i asked him about buying one as he makes them..£100 though),
Caribou, The National, Laura Marling, Radio Luxembourg, The Accidental, Babel, Iron & Wine, The Peth.

There are't that many photos as my friend's camera gave up after day 1.

CLICK HERE to see ALL the Green Man photos over on BEANSNAPS.

Wild Beasts..
Thanks to G.Jones who took all the photos.

Here's a nice little video made by Love.Stop.Repeat that pretty much sums up how great Green Man is (look out for the mud surfing)..

Below are a few videos filmed by other people at the festival..

* Wild Beasts..

* King Creosote (stealing my bowl-haircut-wig idea that i wasn't brave enough to pull off)..

Wig Out backstage

* The Three Craws..

* James Yorkston

* School Of Language

* Laura Marling

* F*** Buttons..

OLO RADIO - G22 - THE LANDLORD'S DAUGHTER - THE GREEN MAN - 20/2/07

Our next guest mix comes from THE LANDLORD'S DAUGHTER! (from The Wickerman Festival)

"This mix is basically what the blissed out chilling fields of The Wickerman Festival's all about. It's an easy going festival, but not lazy. It's colourful and bright, but not in-yer-face with a 24hr day-glo attitude. Great music, green Scottish valleys, and sunshine filled warming blue July summer skies."
- The Landlord's Daughter

'The Green Man' is the name of this EXCLUSIVE mix given to Olo Radio. Enjoy!

GREEN MAN

I got a last minute cut price ticket for The Green Man Festival yesterday. It's my last chance of some fun this summer (there's not been much so far). The downside of arriving late today is that we'll miss the Fence bunch. I'm very very excited about seeing Wild Beasts for the first time, also looking forward to seeing..Super Furry Animals (i think it'll be for the 10th time), Junior Boys, School Of Language, Archie Bronson Outfit, The National, Caribou, and David Holmes. I'm off in a bit, see you next week (with the beansnaps)...as WB would sing..Cheerio Chaps Cheerio Goodbye!

GREEN MAN FESTIVAL '09 - THE REPORT

I Had myself a wonderful time at this year's Green Man Festival as you may have seen from my photos (over 3 weeks ago now - why am i always soo late with these reports?). Probably the most perfect festival i've ever been to in terms of music, weather, friends, atmosphere, & fun. I had myself some testing times due to the things i did to my body but i just about got over them to carry on. The toilets were pretty damn good!

My musical highlights were..

Grizzly Bear
Gang Gang Dance
Animal Collective
Bon Iver
The Three Craws / Pictish Trail / Rozi Plain
The Aliens
Pivot
British Sea Power
The Phantom Band
Beach House

I missed quite a bit. Friends + sun + booze = fun & confusion.

Us OLO Worms were given free tickets in exchange for playing some music inbetween the Fence acts. DEAL! Although no one told us we'd actually be ON the stage! At the front of the stage! With a whole tent watching the 3 of us (SW had to pull out) awkwardly standing there watching The Three Craws set up their gear while queuing up the next track. It may not have looked it but we loved it!

Below are the tracks that made up our DJ set (maybe not in the right order)..

(BB's mini mix..
Clouddead - No.5 (1)
Flight Of The Navigator Theme
KLF - Dream Time In Lake Jackson
Kraftwerk - Uranium
Boards Of Canada - The Color Of The Fire
Aidan Moffat - International Valentine
James Holden - Lumpette)

Paul Simon - Me And Julio Down By The School Yard
Animal Collective - Who Could Win A Rabbit
Pavement - Cut Your Hair
Big Cherry - Come In Bonzo

(DF's mini mix - tracklist unknown)

Van Dyke Parks - Sweet Trinidad
T.Rex - Jewel
Ronnetes - Be My Baby
The Zombies - Friends Of Mine
The Kinks - Who'll Be The Next In Line
Gorky's Zygotic Mynci - Poodle Rockin'
Can - Spoon
Fever Ray - When I Grow Up (Remix)
Black Beauty Theme

Queen - I Want To Break Free
King Biscuit Time - I Walk The Earth
Ice Cube - It Was A Good Day

(the rest can't be recalled)

Due to it being a few weeks ago i won't write any more as i can't remember much stuff now.

Here are the links to the photos and video..

GREEN MAN FESTIVAL

Lone Pigeon

King Creosote + Lone Pigeon

King Creosote

Pictish Trail, Adem, + King Creosote

photos by Quinbus Flestrin (thanks!)

Very upset i could'nt make it to the Green Man Festival at the weekend, from the reports i've read and the photos i've seen i should have bought a ticket instead of July's food shop..gisajobsomeone! you can view Christian Payne's photo's of Lone Pigeon and friends here.

here's what my uncle (who went) had to say about it...

"It was splendid! quick snapshot for you...
camping under a huge cedar tree in the ground of the stately house, Andy Votel mashing up a weirdness of indian soundtrack to funk to arabian, Adem playing two live acoustic sets in the camping field, fiddlers and guitraists doing improtu Johnny Cash, Pedro blasting the beards off the chin stroking set with an ear splitting live drum and sample sonic assault, Jeffry Lewis doing his comic book assitsed tunes and a great song about Will Oldham, Lone Pigeon going bonkers and doing weird demented dancing, King Creosote and the Earlies with Adem like some kind of Folk8 thing, The Earlies were splendid too and many many more too numerous and woderful to mention plus I was very pissed and can't remember the names."

John, did u make it to Bonnie Prince Billy and Joanna Newsom?

131209 > 281209

Dreamt about a little old lady who was really slowly painting the white lines on a tiny football pitch. i offered to help and ended up doing the whole pitch, but doing it much much worse than her. Spent time in my old home town Hertford..sitting in cafe's, drinking tea, writing notes. JEWELLERY & DELIVERY. 'Loose Women' just aint what it used to be, watched 5 mins then had to stop. It's dangerous having mince pies in the house. I'm well chuffed with the words ive come up with for our song 'Disney'. i feel it could be the 1st track on the album. "do ya OWLS! DO YER OWLS!!". I'm wearing a ginger ponytail..my mum just clipped it on me and told me to wear it for a gig. Shattered!..longest toughest run yet..ran from Hertford > Ware & back (bout 5k), been told my Nike+ might be set wrong so im better than i thought! The Silver Columns website i designed gets called 'scrummy' by D.I.S. Watched CHRIS DE BURGH on BBC News, exciting!! NEWS ALERT! ...this just in...i can confirm - it IS SNOWING here in Buntingford! In the bath i combed all my leg hair to 1 side so my leg looked like a tree trunk..as i lied there i thought to myself...i must blog this. I can hear my Nan & Grandad talking about my T-shirts i designed. "its a worm Bryan!!". Found booze in loft, taking it to London with me! Listening to AC's 'Sung Tongs' with the snow swirling around outside my window..rather nice! Soooo tiiiired...at Pineaaple Cottage cos SOMEONE forgot about me. Just ate massive plate of leftover chips & a toffee apple bakewell. Ran round 'the downs'..saw a fox and a strange man in a car. Spoke to Radio man Huw Stephens...hmmm..... i went on a bit of a space trip. CHRISTMAS!!!! ...nightmare shopping here we go!! R Toys Us? Xmas shopping over thank u...toooo many crazy people in Bristol today...forced myself out for run no.19, only managed 5mins, my legs kill! Whaaa!!?? why the hell have Man City sacked Mark Hughes!!???? My dream last night was waaaay toooo strange for words. TV TV TTTVTVTV TV u gotta be on TV to count..(when your down)..i wanna SEESMILE! Dreamt about going back to work at the cinema and started kicking off at all the managers, then Beyonce calmed me down. *  ❄     * ❄      *       *      ❄ .     *  ❄    * .  ❄    ❄        *        ❄
Green paint?..check! green screen?...check! camera?...check! rucksacks?...check!! shorts?...who's got the shorts!!?? I'll be Steven Spielberg, you can be John Candy, you can be Steven Seagul, and you can be.......Dustin Hoffman. Video shoot done! All that's needs to be done now is, well all the background & erm, most of the foreground. Oh & to bring dinosaurs to life. Wow. RATM won it! im not bothered really, but quite funny how the ballad has been beaten..can we all try and get the E.T theme to no.1 next year please? I dreamt i was alive for my own funeral..it was a funny one, there were large paper monster sculptures & the mayor pronounced my name wrong..I was also in Waitrose having rolled a big black binbag full of stuff down a hill and into the store knocking over their stock...when i went to the till to pay for the ketchup and things i had knocked over i noticed Kevin Eldon was working there! Had some good cockney christmas banter with the fruit & veg men..i've got serious hat hair going on now. "Vinyl has arrived! looks great!" - Pictish. woooooo!!!..Just seen a photo of our record sleeve..looks well good! ahh want it here now. The old folks have got the Christmas songs on full blast downstairs while they put up more Christmas stuff. Running outside in the snow at night to sunny african music is MASSIVE FUN!! Watched Victoria Wood, recording Gremlins. The total spending for our new video came to £65. JH & MH are now on £1.75 an hour to animate and edit it. Listened to last ever SHH on 5 live..very sad. My big job of the day (that ive been ordered to do) > shoveling snow off our drive. its like in the mooooovies!! It's like we are preparing for a war in this house..masses & masses of food&drink in. Crocodileyears is home safe..i am no longer the favourite son, ha! This dubbed 'Pinocchio' film on bbc2 is sooo annoying. Its no tantrum or sulk..i got accused of THINKING about bossing Mark about..which i was'nt even thinking about!! wha!? I got told i cant enter our house til 1pm on christmas day!!?? what am i gonna do?? Planning the xmas TV and 'THE xmas club sandwich'..old folk are peeling spuds..we have 10 roast potatoes each! wooo! enjoying my 1st xmas drink, a little whiskey & coke. feeling very jolly, yes! i said JOLLY!!! listening to my 2nd fave album of the year..bloody brilliant! i think i might be drunk just after 1 small glass of whiskey and coke. bah. wrapping xmas presents drunk ist uber fun! RIGHT! ALL DONE! now off to the 3rd RAMARAMA!! Hertford Town Rules OK!! See you on Christmas Day. PEACE OUT! x Ramarama was a success again. i should be made an MBE for my services to christmas drinking. great to see all Hertford peoples. YES!! new socks! best feeling in the world! i got 3 (three!!) choc oranges! thanks @pouss your presents were brilliantly random and strange. im wearing the mask and apron. my nan loves her Subo and Take That cds. talk turns to Peter Ruffles and his dirty washing. we ALWAYS talk about him every xmas. gonna watch the Peter Ruffles DVD later. the dvd was soo funny i cried and had to leave the room. i'll put together a best of video in 2010 - something to look forward to. Peter Ruffles is a Hertford legend. "during the war the only thing we had to eat was whale meat". chocolate ornage. can't......carry...........on.......................must .......................*fart*................help!....................me........ Hankins family do over, another club sandwich. TV and choc ornage no.2 now. i wanna go to house parties on NYE. off out into Hertford town to meet up with the birthday boys Neil & Alex and their gang of groupies. @crocodileyears > @SlowClubRebecca Homegame will be the 'Out takes' or like Hollyoaks, the 'Too hot for TV' @heinzjunkins. drunk, onrage squash now, just had my 3rd (and last) turkey club of the season. gonna get back on the choc n roll. everyone can relax now.. Joe McElderry is no.1 and im back from the pub (in fairly good nick). i feel really sick. BUCKET & BED. soooo much to do! where do i start!?? ive got a massive new 2010 planner in front of me and im really worried bout days left til the tour. OLO EPK pack received.

Towards the end of January there are very special Fence shows taking place in Edinburgh (22nd), Glasgow (23rd), London (25th), Bournemouth (26th), Bristol (29th) and Reading (30th).

This tour marks the release of OLO Worms debut 7″ single – ‘Back From England / The Elastic Waste Band (Low Fat Cut)’ – a copy of which will be given out to advance ticket holders FOR FREE while stocks last. You can only get a copy of this 7″ if you purchase your tickets through the Fence website.

The OLO’s will be headlining every night of the tour – except for the Edinburgh and London shows, which will be headlined by The 3 Craws (King Creosote, Pictish Trail and James Yorkston). Hailing from Bristol, the OLO boys make some of the most pleasurably bizarre pop sounds we’ve ever heard - trust us, you’ll love ‘em.

The Three Craws (King Creosote, The Pictish Trail and James Yorkston) will be headling two of the shows, in Edinburgh and London. After appearances at Aberdour Festival, and Green Man Festival earlier this year, these forthcoming shows mark The Three Craws first official headline shows – so don’t miss out!

Comprised of King Creosote, The Pictish Trail and James Yorkston, The 3 Craws are as close as Fife is going to get to it’s own süpergroup ... and it’s not even that close. Although, one of these croaking vulcans is a dead ringer for Josh Homme’s dad; another looks like Dave Grohl’s stylist; and one of them is the bastard child of John Paul Gaultier. Expect the widdling faff, and extortionate ticket price of seasoned pro’s ... and none of the timing.

OLO Worms will provide support for the Edinburgh and London shows – and will headline the rest of the tour, with a variety of Fence acts and special guests accompanying them."

Advance tickets for all shows will be available from – YOU GUESSED IT – www.fencerecords.com as of this Monday (7th of December). Here follow the dates…
